Nation of Two is a guitar/drums duo from Seattle. While we can no longer claim to be the only all-transgender band on earth, we are certainly the first. We started this band over eight years ago when we began learning our instruments together. At this point we have become unique.

We don't have a style and we don't need one. There is only one genre of music anyway, which is the genre of talent. Music is about fire and intensity, the beauty of the multiplication table and the chaos of identity, shade and color, seduction and deception.

Our music and ethic is influenced by musicians much older than ourselves, many of whom are no longer among the living. The idea for this band was sparked at an Elvin Jones performance ten years ago, and our patron saint is the uncategorizable Nina Simone. Moving from Heaven to Earth, our favorite bands we've played with are Shoplifting, Erase Errata, the King Cobra, the Gossip, Tracy and the Plastics, the Dead Science, and Deerhoof.

Darius Morrison, the guitarist, is an ftm Asian-American queer adoptee and he could have been cast as an outsider everywhere. Instead he has drawn strength from and given support to several diverse communities (feminist musicians, queer positive performance artists, Asian-American activists, and cohorts of all stripes who respect his passion and commitment.) Lauren Vignec is, for some reason, a mystery to most people.

The true purpose of music is to establish a means of communication between the realm of the living and the realm of the dead.
